ROUNDUP: Gov. Kelly Invests $53 Million in Kansas Childcare Providers
~~”Early childhood investment is the smartest investment a community can make in its future,” Kelly said. “It’s also the smartest investment a community can make in its present.”~~
TOPEKA – Last week, Governor Kelly invested an additional $53 million in childcare providers, which will give bonuses to licensed providers, providing fiscal relief for these essential workers and attracting more Kansans to the field. Earlier this year, Governor Kelly invested $160 million in childcare providers which helped to lower the cost of childcare for working families. These investments will increase access to quality, affordable childcare, growing our workforce to keep up with Kansas’ record economic growth.
Here’s what others are saying about Governor Kelly’s latest investment in childcare:
- Topeka Capital Journal: Kansas child care staff will get bonus pay under new initiative. Here’s how it will work.
“Child care staff in Kansas would be in line for thousands in bonus pay under a new initiative announced Tuesday by Gov. Laura Kelly, a move that comes as the state aims to increase its early childhood education offerings.”
- Kansas Reflector: Kansas to give child care workers $53M in appreciation pay
“Kelly said kids who receive early childhood education score higher on math and reading tests, are more likely to graduate, develop better social and emotional [skills], and are better collaborators and problems. They earn more money as adults, are more likely to own a home and are less likely to suffer from substance abuse, she said.”
